Alba-Golden boys qualify for regional cross country
The Alba-Golden Panther cross country team claimed the District 15-2A cross country championship at the district meet Oct. 13 hosted by North Hopkins High School.
Freshman Brandt Peterson logged the fastest time for the team. With three freshmen and two sophomores on this year’s squad, the future is bright for Panther cross country.
A full junior high boys team also competed at the district meet, claiming second place. With eight runners active in the junior high program, Coach David Smith is thrilled at the progress made in the program this year.
“This is the best first year I have ever had in my career,” Smith stated, “...every runner who competed at district ran a personal best time.”
Running for the varsity program are Drake Duplechain, Chandler Lee, Collin Nichols, Brandt Peterson and Hudson Wright. The boys junior high team is composed of Jose Bellet, Issac Hartin, Zack Morris, Gabriel Phingston, Luier Ramos, Yovani Rodriguez and Hayden Smith. Emily Deatherage ran as the only Lady Panther entry in the meet.
The regional meet will be at Lynn Creek Park on Monday, Oct. 25 in Grand Prairie.
