Alba Library and Museum
For residents who have not had an opportunity to visit the Alba Public Library and Museum, let us introduce ourselves. The library houses over 15,737 books – fiction and non-fiction, with many current authors and titles. Computers are provided to anyone who needs to check email, search the Internet or print from the computers or phones. There is a small fee for printing or copying.
Library cards are always free to anyone, whether they live in Alba. All are welcome. The library invites vacationers to utilize the library when they are in town, and many do. The library offers free books, as well, paperback and hardback, due to donations from patrons. Come by and browse; we’re confident you’ll find what you’re looking for.
The library is open on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on the square at 109 Holley St., next to C&M Building Supply. Phone number is 903-765-2665.
The library is hosting a great Summer Reading Program for youth. Sessions will be held at the library on the following dates: June 19, June 26, July 3, July 17 and July 31 at 10:30 a.m. and will provide many interesting and educational projects.
Activities will include “Bad Art,” “Hanging Yarn Art,” “Patriotic Art and Print Making,” a painting class and original poetry and short story writing. The program will conclude with a Grand Finale on Aug. 7 at 11 a.m. Participants will receive prizes for the total number of minutes read.
The library’s museum is available for tours or browsing when open. Curator Saundra Burge will meet anyone interested in a tour. The library’s next article will focus on the museum, which contains donations from Alba and the surrounding areas ranging from the 19th Century. Coming to the museum soon is a new contribution of great historical value to Alba and the area. The library will keep you posted.
