Alzheimer’s memory walk set Nov. 18 in Mineola

Posted

The Pilot Club of Mineola will hold its annual Alzheimer’s Memory Walk on Thursday, Nov. 18. Registration will start at 6 p.m. at the gazebo in downtown Mineola. Walkers may honor a friend or loved one with a donation and may walk the block in that area.

Monies raised from the walk will fund the Mineola Pilot Club’s Alzheimer’s projects and Alzheimer’s research.

November is Alzheimer’s Awareness month. Alzheimer’s is just one of the memory diseases placed under the umbrella of dementia, which is a general term for memory loss and other cognitive abilities serious enough to interfere with daily life. Alzheimer’s disease accounts for 60-80% of dementia cases.

Brain diseases and health are the focus of Pilot International. Locally, the Mineola Pilot Club joins with its sister clubs in Quitman and Winnsboro and the Wood County Sheriff’s Dept. to sponsor Project Lifesaver for Wood County. Clients with wandering diseases wear a transmitter which can be tracked should they wander away.

For more information on this program, call Joyce Curry, president of Wood County Pilot Clubs’ Project Lifesaver at 903-850-2121.
