Area football playoff at Forney: Mineola vs. West

The second round of the state high school football playoffs is under way with the Mineola Yellowjackets tangling with the West Trojans Friday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m.

On the opening drive Mineola faced fourth and one at its own 36 and Dawson Pendergrass ripped off a 64-yard touchdown run to give Mineola the lead 7-0.

West needs just two plays to respond with a lengthy run to tie it at 7-7.

After West forces a Mineola punt, the Jackets stop a drive picking up a fumbled pitch.

End of the first quarter, still 7-7 but West is driving inside the Jacket 20.

West punches it in but misses the extra point to lead 13-7.

West returns an interception the distance 60-plus yards to take the lead to 20-7.

The Trojans lose a touchdown opportunity on a holding penalty and settle for a 28-yard field goal, 23-7 with 1:32 left in the half.

West follows that up recovering an onside kick.

Halftime score 23-7.

An onside kick attempt by Mineola gives West the ball at midfield to start the half and the Trojans work it down the field. The Yellowjackets hold on 4th and goal at the two.

After holding Mineola at the 10 West gets it back at the Jacket 30.

As the third quarter ends West runs it in to stretch the lead to 30-0.

The entire quarter was played on Mineola's side of the 50. West had two drives and Mineola one possession for seven plays and eight yards.

Mineola pushes inside the West 35 but runs out of downs.

West drives for another score, 37-7. Just over four minutes left.

West intercepts deep in Mineola territory and a persoanl foul puts the ball at the 8.

The Trojans go into victory formation and will remain unbeaten and advance to face Malakoff.
