Arlis C. Banks, 92, of Quitman, passed away Saturday morning, May 1, 2021.

He is greeted in Heaven by his parents, John Herman and Laura (Powell) Banks; wife of 42 years, Dora Banks; sister, Christine Kerzee; and brother, Arvin Banks.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 19 years, Geneva Banks; two sons, James Banks and wife Cathy of Mineola and Johnny Banks and wife Pat of Shallowater; one daughter, Jeanette Castleberry and husband David of Mineola; one sister, Thomasine Hunter of Mesquite; 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren and one to arrive in July; and several nieces, nephews, and many friends. 

Arlis was born in the Rock Hill Community in Wood County. He worked for the Texas Department of Highways and Transportation and retired after 25 years. He was also a member of the Mineola Masonic Lodge #502 and a Baptist minister for many years. He served as pastor at Humble Baptist Church in Mineola, Macedonia Baptist Church in Hawkins, Rock Hill Baptist Church in Quitman, County Line Baptist Church in Yantis, White Oak Baptist Church in Yantis, served as an associate pastor at First Baptist Church of Yantis, and was a member of Lake Fork Baptist Church in Alba.

Funeral service for Mr. Banks was scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at the Lowe-Gardner Funeral Chapel with Brother Dwain Goodson officiating. Graveside service followed at Cedar Memorial Gardens in Mineola with Brother Zachary Tunnell officiating. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Lowe-Gardner Funeral Chapel.

Serving as pallbearers were grandsons Chris Banks, Aaron Banks and Doug Castleberry; grandson-in-law, Daniel Armstrong; great-grandson, Jackson Duncan; and great-grandson-in-law, Luke Bowden.
