Barns show pride in state flag
One of the most recognizable signposts of Texas is the state flag. For many years the Texas flag has adorned barns in this state. Painting of the state flag is much more common in Texas than in any other state of the nation.
Certainly the simplistic beauty of the flag lends itself readily to reproduction. It is also calming to look at with a clean and reassuring color scheme. The lone star signals strength and fortitude. Taken as a whole, the flag is a statement about the people who reside here. It communicates independence, self-reliance and a resolute nature.
There are a number of great examples to see in Wood County. The centerpiece of the photo display above is a barn located near Little Hope. Clockwise then are barns located in Pleasant Grove, Webster and Cartwright. Wood County residents traveling to Tyler can readily sight a building painted with a Texas flag on the east side of US 69, just south of the river.
