Bill Edd Jones  1933-2021

Bill Edd Jones, born March 11, 1933, passed away peacefully at home on June 5, 2021. 

He was born in Cottonwood, Wood County, to the late William Earl and Nanny Prather Jones. He was preceded by his wife, Ella; son, Carey Dean; sister, Patsy Russell; two brothers, Alvis and Truman Jones; and many, many friends and pets. 

He is survived by his daughters, Sheri Jones, Quitman and Teri Liptak (husband Eric); grandson, Logan (wife Kasey); and all of Tyler.

He was an Army veteran, stationed at White Sands Missile Range Las Cruses, N.M. After his military service he was employed by the United States Geological Survey stationed in New Mexico. During this time, he received a telegram from Wood County Sheriff and friend, Paul Ussery. It stated, “I need a chief deputy, the job is yours if you want it.” And so began his career in law enforcement. 

During his career he served as chief deputy for the Wood County Sheriff’s Department, chief of police for the Quitman Police Department and as sheriff of Wood County. 

He will be missed by his family and many friends he made throughout his lifetime. 

Memorial service for Bill is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, June 18, 2021 at Lowe-Gardner Funerals & Cremations.
