Bingo in the park returning to reunion
The time-honored tradition of bingo during the Old Settlers Reunion Aug. 5, 6 and 7 coordinated by the Quitman-Lake Fork Kiwanis Club is on the agenda after missing last year when COVID-19 shut down the annual Wood County event at Jim Hogg City Park.
There have been a few slight changes in this year’s reunion.
The Sunshine Midway carnival rides will be on the front parking lot of Hogg Park while vendors will be set up throughout the park.
The Kiwanis bingo site is at the basketball courts which were built by the local club.
Bingo will be open for play at 7 p.m. and go to 9 p.m. each night.
Kiwanis member J.R. Evans is excited this year because proceeds from the event will be used toward the walking and biking project on the horizon.
“We are going to have the same type of prizes and cash each game as we have in the past. We are looking for a great crowd to come out and have some fun,” Evans said. “We really appreciate all the support of bingo in the past and look for this year to be even better.”
The Kiwanis are continuing to obtain land and easements for the trail. They will begin clearing the properties in the next few months.
The vision of the club is to have the trail connect Jim Hogg Park with the Dawson Park/city pool.
This is a long term project which has been in the works for several years and will take even more time to complete.
The Kiwanis are accepting donations for bingo prizes and cash. To make a donation of any item or cash, call 903-394-8941 and a club member will pick up the donation.
