Bold new technology assists students
Mineola School Board members saw some Star Trek technology demonstrated Monday that is helping students at the middle school.
Taken from the popular science fiction show’s universal translator, the TimeKettle Translation earbuds allow a student to hear translations in real time in their own language.
The technology was funded by a grant from the Mineola Education Foundation.
The board learned the district set another enrollment record with 1,748 students, up 18 from last month.
Attendance is running at 96.47%.
Superintendent Cody Mize said the board will see plans at the October meeting on ways to spend the remaining $4 million-plus from the 2022 school bond, targeting a new auto mechanics shop and career and technical education facilities in the old elementary campus.
The district and campus improvement plans were presented, which continue to focus on third grade reading, algebra one and college, career and military readiness. School safety and emotional health support are also key elements.
