Bulldogs blanked to start district
The Quitman Bulldogs opened district baseball play at home and suffered a 10-0 loss to Mt. Vernon.
The Tigers grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the first inning and then added a big six-run third inning to take a 7-0 lead.
Mt. Vernon added runs with two more in the fifth and one in the top of the sixth while shutting down the Bulldog offense to just three hits.
Ford Tannebaum, Mason Reynolds and Hayden Cook each had one hit for Quitman.
The Bulldogs committed two errors.
Tommy Drinkwine and Landon Richey were on the mound for Quitman.
After a district game at Mt. Pleasant Chapel Hill, the Bulldogs will host county rival Winnsboro at 6 p.m. Friday.
