The Quitman Bulldogs got revenge from a first round loss to Mt. Vernon with an exciting 8-7 win at home last Tuesday. Not only were the Bulldogs gearing up the offense with seven hits, but they were flawless in the field with no errors.

Mt. Vernon took an early 2-0 lead, but the Bulldogs used a big seven-run second inning to go up 7-2. Quitman used the bats of Mason Reynolds, who went 3-4, Justin Matthews, Carson Dickens, Dalton Crowson and Ford Tannebaum. Reynolds and Tommy Drinkwine each had doubles for Quitman.

Landon Richey turned in another good performance going four innings on the mound, striking out 11 and allowing just two hit and three runs.

Mt. Vernon struck back with four runs in the top of the fifth and another one in in the top of the sixth to tie the game at 7-7.

The Bulldogs came through in the bottom of the sixth inning with a run to make it an 8-7 victory.

The Bulldogs fell in district play Friday at Chapel Hill 5-3. Down 5-0, the Bulldogs fought back in the final inning scoring three runs, but the Red Devils held on for the win.

Quitman outhit the Red Devils 6-3, but seven Bulldog errors led Chapel Hill to the win. Crowson had an RBI and Dickens had a pair of RBI for Quitman. Reynolds did an outstanding job on the mound in the loss. The talented senior stuck out 10 Red Devils and gave up no earned runs and just one walk.

The Bulldogs were set to play Monday against Winnsboro. The game was moved to Monday to get ahead of storms expected Tuesday. Quitman will be at Mineola Thursday at 7 p.m.
