Bulldogs hold off Winona, fall to Harmony

The Quitman Bulldogs scored at least one run in each of the first five innings, leading them past Winona 8-6 last Tuesday evening in district baseball.

Both teams had six hits. Winona also had four errors and Quitman three. With Quitman leading 8-4, Winona struck back in the sixth inning to score a pair of runs. 

Mason Reynolds started on the mound for the Bulldogs and threw the first five innings, giving up five hits while striking out nine batters. Landon Richey relieved Reynolds on the mound for the final two innings.

Richey had two hits and a pair of RBI to lead the Quitman offensive effort. Richey and Ford Tannebaum each had a double while Jack Tannebaum added a triple. The Bulldogs had five stolen bases with Hayden Cook and Ty Holland each with two.

Harmony pitching shut down Quitman bats as the Eagles trounced the Bulldogs 9-1 in the District 13-3A final game of the season. The Bulldogs ended district with a 4-8 record while Harmony will move on to the playoffs.

Quitman was not able to get anything going offensively as Eagle pitchers Tucker Tittle and Boston Seahorn held the Bulldogs to just two hits, from Jack Tannebaum and Cody Hawley.

The Eagles built a 9-0 lead before the Bulldogs finally got a run in the bottom of the fifth frame. Quitman also had three errors. Ty Holland had his team’s only RBI. 

Ford Tannebaum started the game on the mound for Quitman. Tommy Drinkwine and Landon Richey each came on in relief and tossed two innings apiece.
