Candidates file reports for political contributions

Posted

The latest expense and contribution reports for candidates in the party primaries were due Jan. 31.

A candidate does not have to report finances if they get a “modified” status. Modified status means the candidates do not intend to accept more than $930 in political contributions or make more than $930 in political expenditures (excluding filing fees) in connection with any future election within the election cycle.

In the race for Wood County Judge, incumbent Lucy Hebron and challenger Kevin White each turned in their reports.

Hebron reported $8,601 in contributions. Donations made to Hebron were from G.E. Power $2,000; James E. Buerger $1,000; Joseph Moore $500; Rebecca and Steve Straznicky $500; Greg and Carol Hollen $500; Ilie Capatana $500; Matt Brigham $480; Paul Thomason $350; Ken Adair $300; Lloyd Steele $300; Jeff Fletcher $250; Troy Robinson $250; Vince Colvin $250; E.A. Groepper $200; Larry Wisdom $200; Lex Forster $200; Louis Merren Jr. $200; Phyliss Harding-Nichols $100; Brandon Winn $100; J.L. Eberline $100; Ray North $100; Valerie McCullen $400; Terry Jones $96; and Timothy and Mary Ford $25. In-kind contributions were received from Lloyd Steele, $200; and Jan Berry, $75.

White reported $1,250 in political contributions made by Josh Wright $500; Janet Starr $300; Brian Jones $250; and Robert White $200.

In the district attorney race incumbent Angela Albers reported political contributions of $4,559. Donations accepted were from Rodney Watkins $1,000; Catherine P. Clayton $550; Joe D. Clayton $500; J. H. Herlocker III $500; Beverly Foster Gunn $400; Claudia Martin $250; Patrick A. Daley $250; Carolyn Albers $250; Roy Devlin $200; Brandon Baade $184; Deanna McCullough $150; Janie Walenta $100; Fran Whitley $100; Margaret Lay $50; Darlene Steadman $50; and Charles Evans $25.

Albers’ opponent, former district attorney Jim Wheeler, has reported modified status.

In the race for Commissioner Pct. 2 between incumbent Jerry Gaskill and Sten Langsjoen, Gaskill has sent in his report, but his challenger has not. Langsjoen has not sought modified status and no report has been sent to election administrator Laura Wise.

Gaskill reported $250 in political contributions. Those donations were $100 each from Elizabeth Dean and Derek Morrison and a $50 donation by Janet Draeger.

In the Pct. 4 commissioners race incumbent Russell Acker and challenger James Whitehurst both have declared modified status.
