A high speed chase that began in Rains County last Wednesday afternoon ended when the suspect crashed near Mineola on Hwy. 69.

According to the Rains County Sheriff’s Dept., Deputy Beck was patrolling on Hwy. 69 near Alba when he attempted to stop a white, four-door car for excessive speed.

The vehicle sped through Alba traveling southeast on Hwy. 69, at times exceeding 100 miles per hour and passing on the shoulder.

After a seven-minute chase, the suspect attempted to turn onto County Road 2220 at more than 90 miles per hour and crashed into a ditch and telephone pole.

The suspect was taken into custody and charged with evading in a vehicle and possession of a controlled substance. Samuel Socia of Whitehouse was transported to the Quitman hospital emergency room and released with minor injuries. Socia was booked into Rains County jail and was being held on $15,000 bond.
