Cheryl Lynn Smith Buffington 1946-2025

Cheryl Lynn Smith Buffington, 79, of Alba passed away March 22, 2025 in Tyler. She was born Jan. 8, 1946 in Dallas to Cecil Robert and Mary Lou Borchardt Smith. She married Thomas Benton Buffington in Grapevine on May 30, 1964. She had recently moved from Rains County to the Alba area. Cheryl worked for the Rains County Sheriff’s Office for 27 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 51 years, Thomas B. Buffington; brother, Mike Smith; and granddaughter, Nikaela Bobo.

Survivors include her two sons, Shannon Buffington and wife Stephanie of Forney and Chris Buffington and wife Stephanie of Alba; daughter, Shawna Buffington of Emory; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Cheryl’s family will have a memorial service honoring her at a later date.
