Church honoring responders

The First United Methodist Church of Quitman is having a special service Sunday, Sept. 18 at the 11 a.m. worship service to recognize first responders from fire, rescue, police and sheriff department. First responders and officers from all over Wood County are invited to be a part of the service.

Pastor Mike Cline said, “We so appreciate the selfless sacrifices these men and women make to ensure that our community is a safer and better place to live and hope these service people will attend this show of recognition.”

The church is located at 406 Lane St. in Quitman.

Symphonic band presents Christmas concert

Come on over to Mineola’s beautiful Historic Select Theater and hear the Lake Country Symphonic Band’s Christmasy “Everything Christmas” concert.

Concerts are Sunday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. and Tuesday evening, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m. Mike Holbrook is back in the director’s seat, so it’s sure to be a fun-filled couple of hours.
