City council, school board filing underway
Filing continues until Friday, Feb. 14 for positions on the May 3 city council and school board election ballots.
As of Tuesday morning, no contested races had developed.
The school boards for Quitman (two seats), Hawkins (four seats) and Yantis (two seats) have drawn no candidates.
Incumbent Glen Dossett is the only one to file thus far for three seats on the Mineola School Board.
The two incumbents for the Alba-Golden School Board, Dwayne Ellis and Matt Haisten, have filed for reelection.
School board terms are for three years.
Quitman Mayor Randy Dunn has filed for reelection. There are also two city council seats on the ballot.
All four Mineola City Council incumbents are seeking reelection: Mayor Jayne Lankford and council members Terry Eaton in Ward One, Jack Newman in Ward Two and Mitch Tuck in Ward Three.
Yantis incumbents Mayor Trey Norris and council members Julie Mattox and Reed Gammill were expected to file their paper work at Tuesday’s council meeting.
The city of Alba has a vacant mayor’s seat and two council positions but had no candidates as of Tuesday.
The three council positions in Hawkins had each drawn candidates, Kirk Price in Place 2, Dan Spence in Place 3 and Norma Oglesby in Place 5.
None of the incumbents had filed.
Council terms are for two years.
