City, school voting Saturday

Election day is Saturday for four school districts and one city in Wood County.

Mineola will elect a school board member for a one-year unexpired term. Todd Morgan, who was appointed to the position, and Jay McGough, who resigned the post so his wife could be considered for a job with the district, are on the ballot.

The district also has a vacancy following the death of John Abbott, who was unopposed for a full term when he died April 21.

The board could appoint a replacement until next year’s election.

Entities that are not holding elections because no seats were contested include the cities of Alba, Mineola, Quitman, Hawkins and Yantis and the Quitman and Hawkins school boards.

Board elections are on tap for the Alba-Golden, Winnsboro and Yantis school boards.

Candidates on the ballot for AGISD are Brad Lennon, Chad Dailey and Jessica Christian, and Kris Quintana has registered as a write-in candidate.

Candidates seeking the Yantis board seats are Justin Glenn, Stacey Batchelor, Ryan Colby Ogle, Jennifer McKeever and Wynn Sellers.

Winnsboro school board candidates are Jay Murdock, Wayne Cox and Kristal Ross Spencer for Place 2 and Daniel Miller and Kristie Amason for Place 3.

Candidates for the Winnsboro council include Stephen Boorman, Cory Miller, Trevor King, Brenda Morey and Chiquita Baptist.

Polls are open Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Polling locations are as follows:

Alba-Golden – Alba-Golden school

Mineola – city hall

Yantis – elementary school

Winnsboro – city auditorium
