Community rallies to help man suffering long-term virus effects

A benefit was held Saturday for the family of Steve and Jaime Finley in the parking lot to the south of the Quitman Police Department in the location where Judge Hunt’s BBQ sets up.

Steve has been in the hospital due to the coronavirus for nearly 30 days now with most of those days on a ventilator. He is still on the ventilator.

Judge Hunt’s BBQ was instrumental in getting the ball rolling for the benefit. People were able to get a great meal and contribute to a wonderful cause at the same time. There was also a silent auction held at the site.

Jaime Finley said her husband was a little better. “He is doing a lot better today. About two days ago he went into respiratory arrest when they were trying to do the trach and they had several complications with that. The next day we were blessed when they said his lab work and everything looked great,” she said. “We can’t thank everybody enough. We appreciate everyone here and to Clint and Judge Hunt’s BBQ for all they have done.”

Anyone who would like to make a donation to help this family can do so at any branch of City National Bank and tell them you want to donate to Steve Finley.
