The community has rallied to support the family of Mineola High School Athletic Director Luke Blackwell after his 6-year-old son, Jase, was diagnosed with leukemia.

Donations to help with medical expenses are being accepted through Mineola Community Bank and at several locations, including Mineola Sports Apparel, which is also selling Jase’s Army t-shirts. A GoFundMe account has also been established.

An event is planned Saturday at Meredith Memorial Stadium, with all proceeds going to the family.

Brotha’s BBQ (Titus Jones and Eric Sneed) will be served starting at 10 a.m. until it is gone.

Plates are $10 to include one meat, one side, a dessert and drink, and meat will be sold by the pound.

To assist or for more information contact Toscha Sneed at 903-316-6184 or April Rushing at 903-521-1105.

Jase began his chemo treatments last week for acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

Also Saturday a benefit car wash will take place at the location.

Other businesses have also volunteered to donate proceeds from various sales and services.

On Tuesday a parade wound its way by the Blackwell home in Lindale in Jase’s honor, led by area first responders.
