A flurry of late filing means many area city council and school board elections will be contested.

The cities of Alba, Yantis and Quitman and the Yantis school district will not have to hold elections May 7, with no contested races.

The Alba-Golden School Board race features six candidates for the two open spots. Incumbent Chad Dailey did not seek reelection. Incumbent Dwayne Thompson filed along with C.H. Campbell, Dwayne Ellis, Matt Haisten, Grant Keller and Dustin Lavy.

The three incumbents for the Mineola City Council filed for reelection, Sue Jones in Ward One, Eric Carrington in Ward Two and Cassandra Sampson in Ward Three. Jones drew a challenge from Bobby Ryan.

Two of the three Mineola School Board incumbents filed, Glen Dossett and Jill Quiambao. Also seeking the posts are Janice Etheridge and Todd Morgan. Jackie Rodieck did not seek a second term.

Former Quitman School Board member Raymond Peek is among four who have filed for two board seats along with Brooke Rogers, Todd Williams and incumbent James Hicks. Doug Cameron did not seek reelection.

Quitman City Council incumbents Jack Robinson and Steve Glenn will not have to face an election bid, and Todd Wright will earn a seat without a race. Susan Resnik did not seek reelection.

For the Yantis School Board, incumbents April Johnson and Jeff Quinn have filed for their seats, while city of Alba council members Tammy Kirkpatrick, Larry Jones and Bob Kraemer are unopposed for reelection.

Yantis city incumbents Gerald Schmidt and Betty Jenkins and newcomer Kenneth Sharp are unopposed.
