County junior livestock show underway this week

The Wood County Junior Livestock Show is being held this week in Golden.

Activities got underway Wednesday with the new breeding categories.

The following is the schedule for the remainder of the week:

2021 Market Show Schedule

Thursday, April 1:

7:30-8:30 a.m. - Rabbit & Broiler Check-in

9:00 a.m. - Broiler Show

10:30 a.m. - Rabbit Show (immediately after broilers, but not earlier than 10:30)

Noon - Ag Mechanics projects due in place

1:00 p.m. - Ag Mechanics judging

3:30-6:00 p.m. - Check in and weigh in for Steers, Commercial Heifers, Dairy Heifers, Goats, Lambs & Hogs

(No entries after 6:00 p.m.)

Friday, April 2:

8:00 a.m. - Swine Show

10:30 a.m. - Lamb Show

11:30 a.m. - Goat Show

12:30 p.m. - Dairy Heifer Show

1:30 p.m. - Commercial Heifer Show

2:30 p.m. - Steer Show

Saturday, April 3

10:00 a.m. - Auction

Special Olympics returns in style

After a five-year absence, over 150 athletes from Como-Pickton, Cedar Creek and Upshur and Wood Counties competed for special recognition at a state-sanctioned Special Olympics track and field meet at the Quitman High School track field on Friday, April 5.

Symphonic band presents Christmas concert

Come on over to Mineola’s beautiful Historic Select Theater and hear the Lake Country Symphonic Band’s Christmasy “Everything Christmas” concert.

Concerts are Sunday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. and Tuesday evening, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m. Mike Holbrook is back in the director’s seat, so it’s sure to be a fun-filled couple of hours.
