Curtis Nathan Sims 1942-2025

Curtis Nathan Sims, 82, passed away peacefully in his home on March 21, 2025 in Winnsboro. He was born on March 22, 1942 in Van Alstyne. Curtis lived a life marked by faith, kindness and unwavering devotion to his family and community.

Curtis proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1960 to 1966. His service took him overseas to France and later to Washington D.C., where he was stationed at the Pentagon. His time in the military reflected his deep sense of duty and respect for others’ qualities that remained central throughout his life.

On the home front, Curtis shared nearly 62 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Joyce Sims. Their enduring partnership was a testament to love and commitment. Together they raised two children: Robert Sims and Traci Sims Martin. Curtis found immense joy in watching his family grow and flourish. He was a proud grandfather to Daniel Elam, Jacob Sims, Lacey Sims, Nathan Martin, Crystal Martin and Noel Martin Jr. and a cherished great-grandfather to Destiny Elam, Charlotte Martin, Noel Martin III, Kayson Martin, Ethan Martin, Zane Martin, Guinevere Carter, Dylon McGinnis, Boedy Baker and Destiny Baker.

He is also remembered by his sister, Ada Kozlovsky. Curtis was preceded in death by his father, Curtis Bayes Sims; mother, Charlcie Jaquetta Sims; brother, Charles Sims; and great-granddaughter, Melody Elam.

Curtis had many passions that enriched his life and the lives of those around him. A gifted singer with a beautiful voice, he helped create a music ministry that brought comfort and joy to residents of local nursing homes through song. His love for music was matched by his devotion to Bible study, a reflection of the deep faith that guided him daily.

An athlete in his youth, Curtis maintained an active lifestyle well into later years through golf and watching sports. Whether on the green or cheering from the sidelines, he found joy in competition and camaraderie.

Those who knew Curtis remember him as kind-hearted and generous man who never failed to help someone in need. He spoke with respect and treated everyone with dignity. His gentle spirit left a lasting impression on all who crossed his path.

A memorial service honoring Curtis’s life will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2025 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Freedom Baptist Church, 201 W. Loop 564 in Mineola.

Curtis Nathan Sims leaves behind a legacy of compassion, faithfulness and love, a legacy that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him. May his memory bring comfort and peace to those he touched throughout his remarkable life.
