Daniel Lee Metcalf, 91, of Mineola passed away on Dec. 28, 2024. Dan was born in Arkansas and grew up in Garland. He served in the United States Army and graduated college as a result of the G.I Bill. Dan fondly recalled his military service and always credited the Army as changing his life for the better.  He subsequently moved to Richardson and went to work for Texas Instruments as engineer for many years until he retired.

Dan lived a good, long, productive life and was loved by so many. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mineola and very involved in community support and activities in his retirement.  Dan served two terms as a member of the Yantis ISD school board and was a charter member of the Yantis-Lake Fork Lions Club. He enjoyed fishing, traveling and painting. Dan was also blessed with long-lasting friendships of so many throughout his life. Dan and his family were particularly blessed this past year by his many Mineola friends and neighbors and the wonderful caretakers of Autumn Wind Assisted Living in Mineola and Reflections Hospice in Quitman.

Of course, the people he loved most were his family. Dan was preceded in death by his high school sweetheart and wife of 70 years, Carolyn Metcalf, and his parents, Daniel C. and Willie Mae Metcalf of Garland and his brother Porter. He is survived by his two children, Kyle Andrew Metcalf and his wife, Dyana, of Tampa, Fla. and Katherine Lee Metcalf of Poetry, and the absolute love of his life, granddaughter, Kyndal Brand Metcalf. He is also survived by his sister, Norma Jo Varner, and by many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

There will be a memorial service for both Dan and Carolyn at the First Baptist Church of Mineola on May 23, 2025. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation in Dan’s honor to a charity of your choice.
