David Wallace Tate, 63, was born Nov. 1, 1961 and died Feb. 8, 2025.

He was a resident of Winnsboro for many years, after being born and raised in Dallas.

He is survived by parents, Nancy Benson Tate of Missoula, Mont. and James Tate of Richardson. Also surviving are his two sisters, Victoria of Missoula, Mont. and Kathryn and her husband Stan of Canton and their three children, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In his younger years David chose sheet-rocking and carpentry as his profession. In 1978 David joined the US Navy and served on the command ship of the 7th Fleet on the USS Blue Ridge LCC19. Four years ago, David suffered a fall which eventually resulted in a stroke, leading to paralysis to his right side and eventually taking its toll on David. After hearing many prayers, God relieved David of his suffering and pain, thus calling him home on Saturday, Feb. 8.

David will be remembered as a good, generous and compassionate friend to all who knew him and will forever be in the hearts of his survivors.

His ashes will be buried in the Benson family plot at Steward Cemetery in Rusk County. Donations to a favorite charity will be graciously accepted.
