Drug test lands man back in county jail

Chris Osbourne is back in Wood County Jail after District Judge Brad McCampbell revoked his bond after positive drug results from urine tests administered by county probation bond supervisor John Yaeger.

Osbourne had his bonds reduced March 11 by Judge McCampbell but failed to abide by conditions of his new bonds.

The judge raised two bonds to $20,000 each.

Osbourne tested positive for methamphetamine. Osbourne was adamant that he had not done any drugs considered a controlled substance. He claimed he tested positive due to having sex with a female who was on meth at the time.

Yaeger testified the urine sample was sent to Redwood Lab in California. Erica Walker of Redwood Lab testified via Zoom that the test came back positive for the drug.

Osbourn failed to test negative after several tests had been administered. Defense attorney Tom Burton argued it might be possible he tested positive if the drug had been smoked. He raised the question indicating second hand smoke may have caused the positive test. Osbourne’s Oct. 18 test indicated a positive result of meth.

Assistant District Attorney Brand Baade handled the prosecution’s case. He argued that Osbourne tested positive for a controlled substance and it was a violation of his bond terms.

Osbourne was taken to Wood County Jail following the hearing.

He faces charges of resisting arrest or search, possession of a controlled substance in a drug free zone and tampering with physical evidence with intent to impair.

He was arrested Feb. 23, 2021 by Constable Kelly Smith at the Mineola Youth Foundation baseball fields where his vehicle had broken down. He remained jailed until March 23, 2022 when his bond was reduced.
