Earnest Flournoy Jr. 1947-2021

Funeral service for Earnest Flournoy Jr., 73, of Quitman is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, July 17, 2021 at the Lowe-Gardner Funeral Chapel. Graveside services will follow at Quitman City Cemetery.

Earnest Flournoy, Jr. was born in Mineola on July 18, 1947. He was the first of six children born to the late Catherine Flournoy and Earnest Flournoy, Sr. He attended McFarland and Mineola High School.

Earnest relocated to Houston working for Southern Pacific Railroad before returning to Quitman.

Earnest enjoyed working for the state highway department in Quitman until retirement. He attended Brocks Chapel with mother and stepfather, Catherine Clark and Hermèe Clark, until their death. Earnest has one son, Michael Baines, Sr., and one grandson, Michael Baines, Jr. He enjoyed family friends, fishing, hunting and watching his sports and westerns.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Earnest Flournoy, Sr. and Catherine Clark; step father, Hermee Clark; brothers, Larry Flournoy and Hershel Flournoy; sister, Pearley Flournoy Etienne; and brother-in-law, Rev. Charlie Fred Gibson, Sr.

Earnest leaves to mourn his passing a loving son, Michael Baines Sr. of Houston; a grandson, Michael Baines, Jr. of Houston; two sisters, Alice Russell of Harker Heights and Joyce Gibson of Lancaster; brother-in-law, Adam Etienne of Houston; step-sister, Marilyn Clark of Dallas; friend/brother, Mike Berry; sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
