Fishing teams angle at state tournament
Teams from Alba-Golden, Mineola and Quitman competed over the weekend at the state bass fishing tournament.
They joined 325 two-man teams from around the state on Lake Belton for the three-day event that concluded Sunday.
The winning team from Columbia High School caught 10 fish weighing 25.95 pounds as 11 teams topped the 20-pound mark while 22 teams came home empty handed.
The winning school was College Station Anglers with 24 fish weighing 58.27 pounds.
Haydan Marshall and Brandon Hayes of Quitman caught nine fish for 13.46 pounds.
Paislee Pendergrass and Kason Gaby of Alba-Golden caught five fish for 10.02 pounds.
Jace Tyndell and Buddy Ruffin of Mineola caught three fish for 5.03 pounds.
Matthew Currie and Dylan Nichols of Alba-Golden caught a 1.62-pound fish.
Dodge Gaines and Payden Bohannan of Alba Golden had no luck.
The teams competed during the season to earn spots in the regional events in order to qualify for state.
