Flag retirement ceremony planned at Autumn Wind

Autumn Wind Assisted Living in Mineola presents a United States flag retirement ceremony and dedication to veterans Feb. 19 at 1 p.m. at 135 Autumn Wind Court.

Two of the nine veterans being honored include James Krodel, US Marine and surviving soldier of the Battle of Iwo Jima, and Wendell Salsman, Army paratrooper of the 82nd Airborne. Feb. 19 marks the 77th anniversary of the Battle of Iwo Jima.

Also taking part are Boy Scouts of America-Mineola Troop 385, Daughters of the American Revolution and Heart to Heart Hospice.  

The schedule is as follows: 

Opening welcome remarks – Mary Cable, administrator of Autumn Wind Assisted Living

Opening prayer – David Johnson, Post Oak District BSA, Mineola BSA #385

National Anthem – Leigh Sisk, social director, Autumn Wind Assisted Living

Introduction of presenters – David Johnson

Daughters of American Revolution – Carrie Carrow (honor presentation)

Heart to Heart Hospice – Shelly Balderrama (honor presentation)

Ceremony – David Johnson and Mineola Boy Scout Troop 385.
