Posted

The best high school band in the land continues to set new high marks for performance.

Results of the all-state band competition were announced Tuesday morning. Four members of the Mineola High School Sound of the Swarm earned places in the prestigious bands sponsored by the Association of Texas Small School Bands.

Gabby Wolf on trombone, Emily Phonsnasinh on clarinet, Ali Gonzalez on oboe and Ali Jordan on trumpet earned the honors from among 11 band members who advanced to the area competition on Jan. 9.

The 11 included the four above plus Ellery D’Angelo, Rae Pendleton, Trinity Kolo, Makayla Skinner,  Aiden Gould, Alana Galaz and Riley Woodward.

The band also had 20 members earn all-region honors, up from last year’s record 16. There were also three first alternates.

In addition to the above, they included Bianca Delgadillo, Valerie Garcia, Leslie Alejo, Laurin Duncan, Maddie Tucker,  Jonath Esquivel, Emily Miller, Cody Brannan, Jordan Saxon and Mariana Delgadillo who qualified for region honors.

Band members try out for the all-region band, and those placing among the top qualifiers for region also advance to the area round, where they try out for limited seats in the all-state bands.

Once the all-staters get to the annual concert, normally held at the Texas Music Educators Association annual conference in San Antonio, they will try out for one of two bands.

This year’s concert is planned to be held at Melissa High School.
