Deason Hunt spoke to the Wood County Genealogy Society July 18 at the Quitman Public Library.

The longtime member spoke on “How to Tap Into More Free Online Records Than You Ever Imagined.” He gave many websites that don’t cost to do research.

Hunt is a retired Texas high school teacher of journalism, history, English and geography. He has a B.S. degree from Stephen F. Austin University in English, journalism and history and an M.S. degree in journalism and education from East Texas State University (now A&M Commerce).

Deason has been researching his family tree since 1978. He has written three family history books: “Thomas Sr. and Lucy Hunt & Descendants,” “Out of Mississippi: The Robert Wingate Family of Nacogdoches County, Texas” and “Descendants of William Moody of Catham County, North Carolina.”

The next society meeting will be Aug. 15 at 7 p.m. Speaker will be Paula Altenbaumer, a member of the Hopkins County Genealogy Society, presenting an entertaining and informative life history of Henry Stout through the eyes of his first wife, Sarah Mary Talbot Stout.
