The last day to register to vote in the Nov. 3 general election is Monday, Oct. 5.

This year’s general election will also include city council and school board elections that were postponed from May as part of the COVID-19 pandemic response.

Mineola, Quitman, Alba-Golden, Yantis, Hawkins, Winnsboro and Big Sandy ISDs have elections along with the cities of Quitman, Winnsboro and Hawkins.

Early voting begins Oct. 13 and will run through Oct. 30. It will be held at the Wood County Annex at 200 W. Bermuda St. in Quitman. Early voting will be conducted Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., and during the week of Oct. 26-29 citizens may vote from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Those wishing to vote by mail have until Oct. 23 to request an application. To qualify for mail-in ballot, voters must be 65 years of age or older, disabled or be out of the county during the election.

For this election only, voters can bring their mail-in ballot to the elections office; however, they must show identification and sign a document relinquishing their ballot to election officials to put in the required locked ballot box.

Election Day voting will be held from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. at the various precinct locations.

All voting information may be found on the Wood County elections website or if anyone has questions, call the Wood County elections office at 903-763-2400.

In addition to the presidential election, Wood County voters will choose one U.S. senator, U.S. representative, state senator, state representative and state Board of Education member.

One seat on the Texas Railroad Commission will be decided along with four seats on the Texas Supreme Court, three seats on the Court of Criminal Appeals.

Uncontested races include two court of appeals seats and the county positions of district judge, district attorney, sheriff, tax assessor-collector, two county commissioners and three constables.

The Prec. 4 constable seat will be decided by a write-in. Chase Glover is the only declared write-in candidate.
