Health fair shares info on resources
Much work went into the Wood County Health Fair, which was held at the Jim Hogg City Park/Quitman Civic Center Saturday.
The Health Fair was a project put on by UT Health Quitman, the Quitman Chamber of Commerce and the Wood County Economic Development Commission.
It featured around 30 booths and vendors, in addition to several food trucks and live music.
There were some item-selling vendors and many tables with information about local resources; some of the representatives from local healthcare organizations gave free health screenings and limited checkups.
The Flint and Steel skate club was at the fair. Those of different ages participated in live skating demonstrations, which were set up by special permission of the Quitman Development Corp.
Because of the many branches of medicine represented at the health fair, members of the community were reached and made more aware of the resources available for local healthcare.
“We are having a great time! (We’re) getting the information out and letting everybody know about our behavioral health,” said Micki Buchanan, a behavioral health screener with UT Health.
The county plans to hold the health fair again in 2025.
