The annual Veterans Day parade marched through downtown Mineola heading west down Broad St. starting at 11:11 a.m. Saturday morning, beginning with a flyover.

Mineola reveres its vets

The annual Veterans Day parade marched through downtown Mineola heading west down Broad St. starting at 11:11 a.m. Saturday morning, beginning with a flyover.

High school marching bands from Mineola, Alba-Golden, Hawkins and Como-Pickton provided soundtracks.

Floats included the Mineola Marine Corps League detachment's, depicting a silhouette of the raising of the flag at Iwo Jima, which won the best float prize.

The parade concluded with the blaring of sirens courtesy of the Mineola Fire Dept.

Then the crowd moved to the the gazebo, where speakers including District Judge Brad McCampbell delivered remarks, and Mineola senior Shelby Umphries read her winning patriotic essay.

Jim and Jenni Biesheuvel with the Marine Corps League placed a wreath at the veterans memorial as taps was played by Logan Kinder and Ali Jordan of the Mineola High School band.

Mineola Mayor Jayne Lankford shared a message that encapsulated the entire event saying, "Veterans, Mineola loves you."
