Jeanene C. Douthit 1938-2025
Jeanene C. Douthit, 87, of Longview, passed away in the early morning hours of Sept. 8, 2025 at Summer Meadows Nursing Facility, due to complications following major neck surgery.
Funeral service for Mrs. Douthit was held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2025 at Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Rev. Kip Salser officiated. Burial followed at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Mineola. The family received friends for viewing at the funeral home from 5-7 p.m. on Friday evening, Sept.12.
Jeanene was born in Gladewater on Sept. 8, 1938 to Rodney Andrew Charles and Bertha Ella Gay. She attended Texas Christian University, where she rushed and was inducted into Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. After two years at TCU, she moved to Midland, where she worked until she met her true love, Doug Douthit. They were married in 1962, and they welcomed their daughter, Julie, five years later. Doug’s profession with Texaco took them to New Orleans, La. and 19 years after that to Tulsa, Okla. Upon retirement, they settled in Longview.
In Longview, Jeanene served 32 years with the Good Shepherd Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary, and it meant so much to her that she wanted to be buried in her volunteer uniform. Jeanene made friends wherever she went. She had a fondness for helping those in need. She also had a great love for animals and fed and watered many feral cats on her back porch. The many cats and dogs who called her house a home enjoyed Taj Mahal for pets. Other interests included a love for history, World War II and all things mechanical. She played the piano and trombone in school, loved to tell jokes and had tons of stories to share.
Survivors include her daughter, Julie McReynolds and her husband Weldon of Longview; cousins, Amy Anderson and husband Philip, and Allan Miller and wife Mickie of Bettie; their children, Kristi Cruthirds, Brad Knight, Kelli Hood, Michael Miller and Kevin Miller; and their children, Pierson, Reid and Emerson Cruthirds; Jillian and Jackson Knight; Madilynn, Maycee and Maebry Hood; Caroline and Colynn Miller; and Cole and Laikyn Miller.
A special thank you to Visiting Angels, and especially to Laura Bledsoe, for helping to make the last days of Jeanene’s life more bearable.
