Jeanie Nowlin Stiles, 1951-2022

Posted

Jeanie Nowlin Stiles was received in her Heavenly home on March 2, 2022 by God’s loving arms. She fought a long battle with lymphoma, since November 2020. Jeanie was preceded in death by her father, Smead Nowlin, and her brother, Gerald Nowlin.

Jeanie grew up in Arlington, moved to Grand Prairie after marrying Mike and then to Mineola when she and her husband of 47 years retired. Jeanie has her master’s degree in education and taught school in Grand Prairie for 32 years.

Jeanie has been very active in an educator’s service sorority, Delta Kappa Gamma, for many years in a wide variety of leadership roles. Jeanie has also been an active member of TRTA, a retired teacher’s organization. When Jeanie moved to Mineola and joined Wood County Retired School Personnel Association (WCRSPA), she started a reading program with the primary schools in Wood County. Jeanie and many other members of WCRSPA procured funds locally to purchase books for children. They let the children choose a book, they read the book to them and let them keep the book.  Jeanie was also very active for many years with BSF.

Jeanie is survived by her mother, Jonnie Crider Nowlin; her husband, Mike Stiles; two daughters, Shari Weatherford and Staci Garrigus and her husband Chris; five grandchildren, Kylie Garrigus, Kolton Garrigus, Emberly Weatherford, Kensie Garrigus and Rustyn Weatherford; brother-in-law Bill Stiles and wife Betsy; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service in Jeanie’s honor was held Monday, March 7 at 2 p.m. at Spur On Ministries Cowboy Church in Mineola.

In lieu of flowers, monetary donations may be made to the Wood County Retired Teachers Association Children’s Book Project and sent to:
