Joan Jackson Avery, 1928-2022
Graveside services for Joan Jackson Avery, 93, of Richland Hills were held at noon Monday, Feb. 7, 2022 at Roselawn Memorial Gardens with Brother Fred Morrow officiating. Joan passed away peacefully in Richland Hills on Sunday, Jan. 30, 2022.
Joan was born in Quitman on Oct. 6, 1928 to Manco and Bessie Jackson. She attended Quitman schools, graduating in 1946. She married the love of her life, Glen Avery, on Oct. 2, 1952, living at various military bases depending on where he was stationed. She returned to Quitman in 1967. She worked at Jim Hogg Park, retiring from there in 1989 after 20 years of service. After retirement she remained in Quitman until 2012, at which time she moved to Richland Hills. She was a member of the First Methodist Church in Quitman.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Avery; parents, Manco and Bessie Jackson; her brothers, Eldred, John and Bill Jackson; and sister, Elizabeth McAllister.
Left to cherish her memory are numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, extended family members and numerous friends.
