Quitman’s Kennedi Elmore shut down the Mineola Lady Jackets on three hits Friday as the Lady Bulldogs scored a 13-0 district win.

Elmore was perfect putting down eight consecutive Lady Jackets until Allie Hooten smashed a double in the bottom of the third after the Lady Bulldogs had established a 7-0 lead. Mineola also got two more hits from Jaycee Smith and Krispie Barker. Quitman had nine hits, with Carley Spears leading the way with two.

The Lady Bulldogs loaded the bases in the first inning but could not score. Elmore put down Mineola with a pair of strikeouts and a ground out in the first inning. Elmore recorded eight strikeouts in the five-inning mercy-rule game.

Quitman took a 2-0 lead in the second inning after Sofia Tannebaum walked and a hit by Carley Spears gave them runners on second and third. Addie Marcee followed with a perfect bunt for a hit to load the bases.

Quitman scored on a pair of fielder’s choices by Alexis O’Neal and Hannah Holland.

The Lady Bulldogs struck for five runs in the top of the third inning. Ashley Davis belted a triple to deep left field to start the top of the third. After Tannebaum walked, Carley Spears doubled in two runners and Quitman led 4-0.

Quitman scored three more in the inning to take a commanding 7-0 lead.

Quitman put the game away in the top of the fourth inning, scoring six runs as Lady Jacket pitching had a hard time tossing strikes. The Lady Jackets gave up seven walks and a Larkin Spears base hit.

The Lady Bulldogs are 5-6 in district with the season finale at home Tuesday against Winona. The Lady Bulldogs will make the playoffs as the district’s fourth place team.
