The Quitman Lady Bulldog volleyball season came to end last Friday with a 3-0 sweep at Winona. The Lady Bulldogs struck early and often, dominating the first set to take down the Lady Wildcats 25-8. That was followed by wins of 25-10 and 25-14.

In the Winona win, Carley Spears had four kills, two aces, nine assists and one dig; Lindsey Hornaday five kills, three aces and four digs; Halie Davis four kills, four aces and two digs; and Lucy Brannon two kills, nine assists and two digs.

Earlier in the week at Delbert Ballard Gym, the Lady Bulldogs gave playoff-bound Mt. Vernon all they could handle, losing in three games 25-14, 27-25, 25-22. After a tough first set, the Lady Bulldogs played a stout final two sets before falling.

Hornaday had five kills, three aces and 19 digs; Spears five kills, three aces, nine assists and six digs; Brannon four kills, one ace, eight assists and five digs; and Brooklyn Marcee five kills, one ace and nine digs.

The win gave Quitman a 3-7 District 13-3A record, but there will be no playoffs this year for the Lady Bulldogs.

The district will be represented in the state playoffs by Harmony, Mt. Vernon, Mineola and Mt. Pleasant Chapel Hill.
