Lady Bulldogs handle Eustace easily
The last-minute instructions to the Lady Bulldogs before they took the court against the visiting Eustace squad had to be: ‘take the ball away!’ That is exactly what the Lady Bulldogs did.
The Quitman full-court pressure deflated the Eustace team and created ample scoring opportunities as the visitors struggled to cross half-court. The end result was a 62-13 romp in Quitman’s favor.
Quitman beat the visitors to most of the loose balls, enjoyed an advantage in rebounding – especially in the second half – and played more competent and more confident basketball.
Addison Sapp tallied a game-high 28 points, which included six 3-point shots. Sapp opened the game with a 3-pointer from the top of the key and closed the night’s scoring with a drive down the lane.
Teammate Autumn Cason joined Sapp in double figures with 11 points. Lynlee Taylor, Allie Berry, Alexis Frazier and Annabelle Popek also notched the scorebook.
The game unfolded as one might expect this match-up to go, as the teams are at opposite ends of the district standings. Yet, even when teams may be mismatched, the game still has to be played. Quitman efficiently came out and took care of business.
Quitman finished their district season Tuesday hosting Grand Saline. The Lady Bulldogs are headed for the playoffs, and if they can continue to play unselfish team basketball, they should have a healthy run in the post season.
