Lady Jackets add to the trophy case at New Diana
The Mineola Lady Jackets came home with the New Diana tournament hardware Saturday.
Mineola opened the tournament Thursday with a 39-24 win over the hosts.
After a slow first quarter for scoring, Mineola held the edge 6-5. But New Diana had its best output of the game to forge ahead 20-16 at halftime.
Mineola came out with defensive intensity after the half and pulled ahead 27-19 after three periods.
A shut out in the fourth quarter helped preserve the win.
Next up for the Lady Jackets was Waskom, which nipped Mineola 46-40.
Mineola got a rematch on Saturday and took the win 49-39.
The Lady Jacket junior varsity also came home with third place from the tournament.
In prior action, Mineola fell to Wills Point 33-20 last Tuesday, and in the previous tournament at Mount Vernon, Mineola took a 54-42 win over DeKalb before consecutive losses to Paris 57-29 and Caddo Mills 58-30.
Again it was the second half that fueled the win over DeKalb.
Mineola trailed 22-18 at the half but outscored their opponents 36-20 after halftime.
