Lady Jackets claim 8th place at state golf tournament Tuesday

Mineola sat in 8th place after the first day of the Conference 3A girls state golf championship at ShadowGlen in Manor Monday, shooting a 411 team score.

Sunni Ruffin and Ava Johnson each shot 94 to lead the team, which tied them for 21st place individually.

Leading the 12 teams was Wall at 353 while the low individual was eventual winner Katie Hart from Mt. Pleasant Chapel Hill at 74.

The Mineola team includes Allie Hooton, Savannah Lopez and Valerie Moreland.

Most of the team improved their scores Tuesday, with Johnson carding an 86, Ruffin 89 and Lopez a 101 after 108 Monday for 394 as a team.

Lightning suspended play with a few holes to go for the top three teams Tuesday, with Mineola unable to make up an ground.

Once play resumed Wall captured the title handily.

The Lady Jackets scored one of the best improvements from day one to day two.
