Mineola girls finished district basketball last Tuesday in Mt. Pleasant. The Lady Jackets fell 51-33 to the formidable Chapel Hill Lady Devils.
Mineola hung with Chapel Hill, despite finding it difficult to penetrate a devilish zone defense, trailing the Lady Devils 14-11 after a quarter.
The saving grace early was that few Chapel Hill shots were falling, but once they started to find the bottom of the bucket, they pulled away easily, cruising to a 33-17 halftime lead.
A usual strength of the Lady Jackets is their full-court press, which reliably forces turnovers that can lead to easy buckets. The Lady Devils were quite adept at navigating the pressure however, rarely making an errant pass.
Mineola’s offense stalled in the third quarter, scoring two points. They picked up enough steam to muster 14 points in the last period, only closing the gap by eight.
