Lady Jackets have good tourney run
The Mineola Lady Jackets, buoyed from a straight three-set win over Commerce early last week, had a spectacular tourney against tough competition at the Van Tournament to close out the week.
In group play, the Lady Jackets put down Sabine in straight sets and took a three-set win over Lone Oak. Mineola then defeated Tyler High in straight sets and Greenville in three sets.
The four consecutive wins put the Lady Jackets in the championship match facing a strong Henderson Lady Lion side. The Lady Jackets fell to Henderson (16-25, 18-25). Despite the loss of the final match, Mineola clearly is hitting its pace as the opening of district nears.
Tierany Neighbors and Mahayla McMahon led the team in kills with 27 and 26, respectively. Neighbors also led the team with 43 digs, with Jaycee Maag contributing 40 digs. Setting specialist Trinidee Jackson led the squad with 40 assists and Olivia Hughes chalked up an additional 23 assists.
The Lady Jackets are at the Athens Tourney this week and commence district play on Friday, Sept. 13 at Quitman.
