Lady Jackets scorch Eustace with 21 runs
The Mineola Lady Jackets moved their home game against the Eustace Lady Bulldogs to Grand Saline last Friday and trounced the Eustace side, 21-1.
The Lady Jackets found the park at Grand Saline High School to their liking. They stroked 18 base hits, with excellent discretion at the plate and an ability to take pitches wherever they were placed.
But for the inability to hit a cut-off man, Mineola would have had a shut-out.
Mineola starter Jadelyn Marshall (four hits, five strike-outs and four walks) gave up a lead-off double in the second. The hitter went to third when the throw from the outfield missed the cut-off man. Eustace scored on a fielder’s choice as the next hitter ground out to short.
This night, however, was about the Lady Jackets productivity at the plate. Six Lady Jackets had multiple base hits, and eight went for extra bases.
Journie Wilson led off the fourth by smashing a low line drive over the ‘212’ sign in dead-away center field. In the fifth, she was back at the plate with one on. This time, she launched a sky-shot over the fence in left-center.
In the 7-run fifth, Mahayla McMahon concluded the scoring with a three-run, home run.
The defensive plays of the game came from the first and second outs in the bottom of the first. Krissie Barker, playing right field for the Lady Jackets, made a difficult catch on a ball tailing away near the corner. The second notable defensive play came when Wilson scooped a low-throw from shortstop for the next out.
The next chance to see the Lady Jackets at home is Friday, April 11 as they host Grand Saline.
