Lady Panthers fight wind for win
In a game which could have been legitimately called due to blowing dust, the Alba-Golden Lady Panthers recorded their third district win with a 14-0 outcome against the Sulphur Bluff Lady Bears Tuesday.
The Lady Bears hurler appeared unsettled by the gusting winds. Alba-Golden took advantage of 13 base-on-balls and three hit batsmen to put up five runs in the first, eight in the second and one run in the fourth. Sulphur Bluff could not engage the Lady Panthers on the diamond due to their inability to throw strikes.
Lady Panther Megan Wallace had no difficulty with the strong winds. She one-hit the Lady Bears, giving up only three free passes and striking out six. Wallace remained composed despite the challenging conditions and used excellent placement to stay ahead of the hitters.
Cacie Lennon had a nice day’s work at shortstop, making a handful of ground-ball outs with fluid fielding and a strong arm.
Second baseman Kalli Trimble teamed with Kylie Kennedy to record a double play in the top of the second. With a Lady Bear on first, Trimble fielded a sharply hit grounder at second, advanced to tag the runner headed for second – which forced her out of the base path – and pegged a nice throw to Kennedy at first.
Trimble also scored Alba-Golden’s initial run when she stole home on a passed ball. The play at the plate was close, but Trimble was able to get underneath the tag for the score.
The win puts Alba-Golden at 3-0 in district play.
