Lady Panthers run to area track title

The Alba-Golden Lady Panthers excelled in the relays and hurdles on their way to the area track championship last Wednesday at Cooper.

The Lady Panthers edged Cumby for the title, 107 points to 103, with most competitors also qualifying to advance to the regional meet this week.

Bella Crawford won the 100-meter hurdles in 17.18 and the 300-meter hurdles in 51.19.

The 400-meter relay team captured the event in 53.31 while the 800-meter relay placed third in 1:58.15, joined by the 1,600-meter relay team with a third in 4:30.87.

Cacie Lennon ran third in the 100-meter dash with a 13.7.

Crawford placed fourth in the long jump, going 14’6.75”.

Abby Hallman cleared the bar at 7’6” for runnerup in the pole vault.

Kalli Wright placed second in the shot put with a heave of 31’10” and also took third in the discus with a 88’3.25” throw.

Hope Wiley rounded out the scoring with sixth in the triple jump at 29’5.25”.

For the boys, the 400- and 800-meter relay teams led the way with third-place finishes. The 400 team ran a 45.98 while the 1,600 team finished in 1:36.68.

The 1,600 relay was fifth in 3:48.35.

Jason Langston placed fourth in the 110-meter hurdles in 18.91.

Jerry Skinner was fifth in the 300-meter hurdles with a 46.66.

Thai Peterson also grabbed fifth in the triple jump, going 37’4.5”.

And in the 100-meter dash, Glenn Hartley was sixth in 11.92.

The top four finishers in each event advance to this week’s regional meet, with a chance to qualify for the state meet.

The regional will be Friday and Saturday at Springtown.
