Lady Panthers win finale, head to state playoffs
Alba-Golden fell behind Detroit 5-0 in the first inning of their district softball game last Tuesday, but it was all Lady Panthers after that in a 22-5 win in the regular season finale.
After the Lady Panthers plated eight runs in the top of the fifth, Skyler West blanked Detroit in the bottom of the inning to end the game. She shut out the hosts for the last four innings and recorded five strike outs while allowing eight hits.
Alba-Golden had 14 hits, with Kayli Covey and Cacie Lennon each with three and Kylie Kennedy two. Covey and Kalli Wright each drove in four runs and West three. Kennedy and Abby Hallman each drew a pair of walks.
The Lady Panthers crossed the plate nine times in the second to take the lead and added four in the fourth.
Alba-Golden will enter the state playoffs with a bidistrict game Friday against James Bowie at the Longview Lobo softball field at 6 p.m. Tickets will be sold at the gate, no cash accepted.
