Lee Ray Fergason, 1941-2022

Lee Ray Fergason, 80, of Quitman passed away Jan. 13, 2022 in Grand Saline. Lee Ray was born in Kilgore on June 10, 1941 to the late Carlson “Carl” W. Fergason and Lucile (Chappell) Fergason.

Lee Ray married the love of his life, Jane Elizabeth Simer, on Nov. 8, 1969. They had just recently celebrated their 52nd anniversary. He enjoyed fishing and hunting in his younger years. He was employed at Tyler Pipe where he worked in the pattern and repair department and retired after 35 years. After retirement he enjoyed serving the public for 13 years at the local Quitman Brookshire’s. Lee Ray was a member of First Assembly of God in Quitman. At church, he was the Sunday school secretary for many years and also enjoyed greeting all the members and guest attending services. 

When he entered into Heaven there were many loved ones awaiting his arrival. His parents, Carl and Lucile Fergason; son, Jeffrey Allen Fergason; siblings, Velda Hilderbrand and Forrest Fergason; two great-grandsons, Kylar and Kadan Clanton; and one great-granddaughter, Jillian Peoples.

His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his wife, Jane Fergason of Quitman; daughter, Kara Clanton and husband Kevin of Quitman; two sons, Terry Bybee of Quitman, and Patrick Fergason of Quitman; seven grandchildren, Kari Clanton of Quitman, Kasey Clanton and wife Kelly of Hallsville, Peyton Fergason of Longview, Taylor and Wade Peoples of Winnsboro, Gunner Amerson and wife Hope of Winnsboro, Grayson Amerson of Longview and Gavin Amerson of Longview; and 11 great-grandchildren, Karli and Jack, Kenzly, Kambry, Kaisly, EverLee, Annastyn, Anthony, Keylan, Charlotte and Wesley.

Lee Ray was a wonderful husband, father, “GPaw,” son and mentor and will be deeply missed by his family and friends. 

A celebration of Lee Ray’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 21, 2022 at First Assembly of God in Quitman with Pastor Ken Otwell officiating.
