The following was presented to the Mineola City Council Monday in the writer’s absence but was not read into the record:

Tonight you will be deliberating the purchase of a 280-foot tall antenna and ancillary equipment.  It is a decision that everyone will remember and unfortunately have to look at when they visit the Mineola Nature Preserve.

As I have stated in previous comments to this council, it concerns and bothers me that all measures were not taken to avoid installing this 280-foot tall antenna at the Mineola Nature Preserve. The intrusion into the Preserve property is hypocritical to its very namesake.

I truly believe that if there were strong commitments by the city to provide, maintain, and preserve the quality of life in Mineola and the region, that the city would have invested time, and yes some money, to buy four acres of land to install this antenna on.

It is my hope and desire that any further intrusion into the Mineola Nature Preserve would not be taken.  We will remember this as a sad day for the Preserve and will continue to support the preservation of it for future generations and the quality of life that we have come to enjoy out there.

If it is at all possible, please reconsider the proposed location and actively research another location that could be obtained through donation or purchase and avoid this unsightly intrusion into the Mineola Nature Preserve.

Respectfully and regrettably submitted,

Joe Moore
